First synthesized and described in 1984 by Bowers and colleagues, GHRP-6 became one of the earliest agents in the class of growth hormone releasing peptides. It was originally developed to stimulate endogenous GH secretion, offering an alternative to direct hormone therapy. Though it would later be overshadowed by more selective analogs like GHRP-2 and hexarelin, GHRP-6 remains notable for its strong appetite-stimulating effects and ability to elevate GH levels through activation of the GHSR1a receptor​.
