Recombinant human growth hormone is a synthetic protein created to imitate the body's natural growth hormone. It is mainly prescribed for children experiencing growth failure due to low production of natural growth hormone and is also used for long-term therapy in adults with a deficiency in growth hormone. Brands of hGH include Omnitrope, Genotropin, Humatrope, Norditropin and Nutropin. Although these products vary in their delivery devices, the medication itself remains consistent across all brands. hGH (also known as a somatropin) replacement therapy provide several advantages, including promoting tissue development and growth, and also assisting in the metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, fats and minerals. More effects such as decreasing in body fat, boost lean body mass, improve muscle strength and physical performance, enhance heart function and increase bone mineral density. The main goal of treatment, is to improve the quality of human life. Potential side effects of using growth hormone include joint stiffness, joint and muscle pain, numbness or tingling sensations, fluid retention, and carpal tunnel syndrome. Users may also encounter reduced glucose tolerance. These side effects are often manageable through dose adjustments, and older or more obese patients may be more susceptible to them. There is no evidence that growth hormone replacement increases the risk of new or recurring cancer.
