Substance Overview and History

Cabergoline, developed in the 1980s by Pharmacia and gained recognition under the brand name Dostinex. It was first used to address hyperprolatcinemia (condition marked by excess prolactin production) and later found to be beneficial, in addressing other problems such as erectile dysfunction and enlarged breasts in men (gynecomastia). Caber.. functions as a dopamine receptor agonist, specifically targeting the D2 receptor to inhibit prolactin secretion. Generally available in countries such as Argentina, Canada, and the United Kingdom, it became more accessible globally after the Food and Drug Administration approved generic versions between 2005 and 2007. Today it is sold under different brand names, however Dostinex is still the well known option on the market.
