Delta sleep-inducing peptide (DSIP) was discovered in 1977 in rabbit brain blood during sleep stimulation. Initially linked to slow-wave sleep, its role remains unclear. DSIP regulates hormones, lowering corticotropin and increasing somatotropin and luteinizing hormone. It acts as a stress adaptogen, modulates monoamine oxidase, and supports brain metabolism. In ischemia models, DSIP improves blood flow and reduces neuronal stress. It also enhances Valproate’s anticonvulsant effect, suggesting therapeutic potential in epilepsy and neuroprotection.
