The therapeutic use of hCG began nearly a century ago. First linked to pregnancy in 1920, it was commercialized in the 1930s by Organon, which marketed it under the name Pregnyl. Early production involved animal tissues, but that method was soon abandoned. From the 1940s onward, manufacturers turned to a more reliable source—human pregnancy urine, filtered and purified in pharmaceutical labs. Today, hCG plays a targeted role in medicine, mostly in treating infertility and hormone deficiencies in both men and women.
