DSIP, identified in 1977, is a peptide with neuroendocrine and stress-regulating properties. Though once thought to induce sleep, its role in sleep regulation is uncertain. It modulates hormonal release and reduces stress-induced brain dysfunction. DSIP improves outcomes in ischemic injury models by increasing cerebral blood flow and reducing oxidative stress. It also works with Valproate to suppress seizures. These properties make DSIP a candidate for treating neurodegenerative and stress-related conditions.
