Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (hCG) is a natural polypeptide hormone discovered in 1920 and first used pharmaceutically in 1931 by Organon as “Pregnon.” Derived originally from animal pituitary extract, it was later purified from the urine of pregnant women. hCG mimics luteinizing hormone (LH) and has been used to treat hypogonadism, infertility, and cryptorchidism. It gained popularity among athletes for restoring testosterone production after anabolic steroid cycles. Today, hCG remains widely available in both prescription and international markets.
