Developed by Bayer, vardenafil is a potent PDE5 inhibitor approved for erectile dysfunction (ED) treatment in 2002. It selectively targets PDE5 in the corpus cavernosum, enhancing cGMP levels to promote erections. Clinical studies have shown that it improves erectile function regardless of the severity or cause of ED, including in men with diabetes and post-radical prostatectomy. Vardenafil is rapidly absorbed and can produce erections within 16 minutes, making it a fast-acting oral therapy. It has a lower risk of vision-related side effects compared to sildenafil due to its greater PDE5 selectivity .
