Beta thymosins, small 5 kDa peptides, were first discovered in 1966 by A.L. Goldstein and A. White. Initially believed to be hormones originating from the thymus gland called hormones are a total of sixteen identified on this day, with three that are notably found in humans Thymosin β10 (TB10) Thymosin β15 (TB15) and Thymosin β4 (TB4). A fragment of the 43 amino acids peptide Thymosin Beta 4 (TB 4) known as TB 500 is distributed throughout human tissues apart from red blood cells and is particularly abundant in organs like the spleen and lungs as well as in bodily fluids such, as saliva and tears. Secreted by the thymus gland, TB4 plays a role in the body’s healing process, although its production is limited. TB 500 is a part of TB4 that boosts the growth of blood vessels and improves blood flow, to injured spots to help heal organs and tissues faster while also strengthening the immune system and easing pain and swelling for quicker recovery.
