Boldenone Undecylenate was developed by Ciba in the 1960s and briefly sold under the name Parenabol for human medical use. However, its greater success came in veterinary applications under the name Equipoise. In the field of veterinary this slow release anabolic steroid is commonly preferred for encouraging the development of muscle and enhancing the appetite of horses. Structurally, it is a modified form of testosterone, with a double bond between carbons 1 and 2, reducing its estrogenic effects. Pfizer now markets Equipoise, following its acquisition from Squibb, Solvay and Wyeth.
