MT-II is a cyclic heptapeptide based on α-MSH, designed for stability and central nervous system access. It was first studied for pigmentation but caused prolonged erections in early trials. The compound activates MC1R, MC3R, and MC4R, with the strongest effect via MC4R. MT-II induces erections through central action, not penile relaxation. Animal and human studies confirm effectiveness in erectile dysfunction, including improved sexual desire. Its structure makes it resistant to degradation and highly potent, offering new direction in prosexual therapy.
