Discovered in the 1920s, hCG quickly gained attention for its unique role in pregnancy. By the 1930s, it had been turned into a pharmaceutical product by Organon, a company that initially relied on animal-derived material. But production techniques evolved fast. By the mid-20th century, hCG was routinely collected from the urine of pregnant women, a method that greatly improved availability. While its earlier medical uses were diverse, today it's mainly reserved for hormonal stimulation in reproductive medicine.
