Developed by Ciba in the 1960s, Boldenone Undecylenate was first sold under the brand Parenabol for human medical purposes. However, it gained more traction in veterinary medicine as Equipoise. Its chemical structure resembles that of testosterone and there is a bond, between carbons 1 and 2 which lessens its impacts on estrogen and its androgen effect. The attached undecylenate ester prolongs its duration, making it ideal for veterinary use, particularly in horses. Ownership of Equipoise transitioned over the years, and it is now marketed by Pfizer.
