Human Chorionic Gonadotropin known as HCG, was first discovered in the 1920s and become available commercially in 1931 by Organon as "Pregnon". Renamed to Pregnyl in 1932, this hormone was initially derived from animal sources before being manufactured from the urine of pregnant women by the 1960s. Today HCG is widely used in the medical field for treating infertility and by athletes to boost testosterone after steroid cycles.
