Ostarine, scientifically known as "Enobosarm" or "MK-2866", was first developed in the early 2000s, with a patent in 2001 by The University of Tennessee Research Corporation. GTx Inc. took over in partnering with Merck in 2007. Is is a SARM that targets androgen receptors in muscle and bone, enhancing muscle mass and reducing fat without the strong androgenic effects of anabolic steroids. Popular in fitness for its muscle-preserving effects, also been studied for medical applications, including muscle wasting from cancer, though its clinical success has been mixed.
