Flint Laboratories introduced Levothyroxine Sodium in 1955 as Synthroid. This hormone is also known by its synthetic counterpart T4 (tetraiodothyronine). The main use for this medication is to treat hypothyroidism a situation were a person’s body does not produce the necessary thyroid hormones. With levothyroxine supplement, normal level of thyroid hormones are restored in addition to regulating body metabolism that involves utilization of carbohydrates, proteins and fats.
