Methyldrostanolone was first synthesized in 1959 by Syntex, a pharmaceutical company known for other anabolic agents. Although it was created alongside compounds like drostanolone and oxymetholone, methyldrostanolone was never marketed as a prescription drug. Initially, it was only briefly available as a modified hormone called dimethazine, where two molecules of methyldrostanolone are bonded together. The compound gained attention decades later as Superdrol, a “grey market” steroid sold as a dietary supplement in the early 2000s.
