Methyldrostanolone was a potent research steroid first documented by Syntex in 1959. Unlike its cousins drostanolone and oxymetholone, it never became a formal drug. However, in 2005, it emerged on the American supplement market as Superdrol. Marketed as a legal anabolic agent, its sale relied on the fact it had not yet been classified under steroid control laws. This loophole closed swiftly in 2006, when the FDA issued warning letters to manufacturers and forced its removal from shelves.
