Winstrol, the brand name for Stanozolol, was first introduced in 1962 after its development by Winthrop in 1959. It was recognized for treating underweight conditions, bone weakening, and pediatric growth failure. Its DHT origin and pyrazole structure allowed it to act strongly anabolically without causing fluid retention or estrogenic side effects. Its popularity crossed into veterinary medicine, where it was used in horses for performance support. Though no longer sold in the U.S., it remains in circulation internationally in both human and veterinary pharmaceutical markets.
