Originally approved to treat growth deficiency and osteoporosis, Stanozolol debuted in the U.S. market in 1962 under the trade name Winstrol. It was developed in the U.K. and later licensed by Sterling. Unlike many steroids, it could be taken orally without significant liver toxicity at moderate doses. Its popularity in human medicine declined after increased regulatory oversight, but veterinary usage expanded. Today, Stanozolol remains a legal compound in countries where injectable anabolic steroids are still approved for medical or animal use.
