Stanozolol holds a distinct place in steroid pharmacology as one of the earliest orally active DHT-derived compounds. Launched by Winthrop in 1962 and marketed as Winstrol, it gained approval for a range of medical applications, including delayed growth in children and recovery from long-term illness. Its lack of estrogenic conversion and low androgenicity offered advantages over other agents. Despite eventual removal from the U.S. market, injectable and oral versions are still available in several countries for both human and animal use.
