Oxymetholone was first introduced into clinical practice to treat anemia and underweight conditions. Its structure, a DHT modification with a 2-hydroxymethylene group, gave it a powerful anabolic effect while still being orally active. Although not aromatizing, it displayed strong estrogenic side effects, making it unique among DHT-based steroids. While newer treatments gradually replaced it in medicine, oxymetholone maintained a legacy as one of the most effective agents for rapid mass gain in both clinical and athletic settings.
