Although originally created for human use in the 1930s, testosterone propionate transitioned into veterinary medicine by the 1970s. It was incorporated into cattle growth implants such as Synovex®, where it was combined with estradiol benzoate. These implants aimed to increase feed efficiency and replaced earlier synthetic estrogens like DES. While some athletes misused Synovex® due to its testosterone content, the high estrogen ratio and low hormone dose made it impractical for performance enhancement.
