Oxymetholone was one of the earliest oral anabolic steroids introduced for therapeutic use, originally by Syntex in the early 1960s under the name Anadrol-50. It rapidly became recognized for its ability to induce dramatic weight gain in patients suffering from chronic illness or anemia. Its strength lies in its high anabolic activity and its ability to stimulate erythropoietin. However, oxymetholone’s usage declined over time due to its pronounced liver toxicity and its estrogen-like side effects, despite being a DHT derivative.
