Developed in the early 1960s, methenolone acetate was marketed in the United States as Nibal® by Squibb, but the product did not endure. Meanwhile, Schering reintroduced the same compound under the now-familiar brand Primobolan®, where it found a lasting role in European medicine. It was widely applied in treating muscle-wasting conditions and age-related degeneration. Its non-aromatizing structure and weak androgenic activity gave it a reputation as one of the gentler anabolic agents, particularly suitable for female and adolescent patients.
