Proviron®, the trade name for Mesterolone, was launched by Schering in 1934, making it one of the first oral androgens to reach clinical use. Created to address male endocrine deficiencies, it stood apart from other early steroids by offering strong androgenic properties without significant suppression of natural testosterone. While newer drugs eventually surpassed it for anabolic applications, Mesterolone’s oral usability and hormonal stability helped it remain in use internationally, particularly in European therapeutic protocols.
