Nandrolone phenylpropionate, released by Organon as Durabolin in 1959, was one of the earliest injectable anabolic steroids approved for clinical use. It was administered for treatment of osteoporosis, advanced breast cancer, post-operative trauma, and wasting diseases. The compound offered fast anabolic support with reduced androgenic effects, especially valued in women and elderly patients. However, its short half-life required injections every 2–3 days. This dosing inconvenience led to its gradual replacement by longer-acting esters, though it is still produced as a generic in certain regions.
