Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a polypeptide hormone produced during pregnancy and first identified in 1920. It was later developed as a pharmaceutical product by Organon under the name Pregnyl in 1932. HCG mimics the action of luteinizing hormone (LH), stimulating testosterone production in men and supporting ovulation in women. In bodybuilding, it is used post-cycle to restore natural testosterone production and prevent testicular atrophy. Despite its benefits, misuse can lead to estrogenic side effects and prolonged hormonal imbalances .
