HCG, or Human Chorionic Gonadotropin, was first identified as a pregnancy hormone in 1928 and soon was commercially available for therapeutic use. The original drug "Pregnon" was introduced by a company Organon in 1931, later rebranded as "Pregnyl." While HCG was initially sourced from animal extracts, by the late 1960s, urine-derived versions became the standard. Today, HCG is used in fertility treatments and by athletes to boost natural testosterone production following anabolic steroid use.
