First marketed in 1959, nandrolone phenylpropionate—sold as Durabolin—quickly became one of the most trusted anabolic steroids in clinical use. Physicians appreciated its ability to promote lean tissue retention without causing strong androgenic effects. It was used to treat burns, osteoporosis, and wasting syndromes in both men and women. However, its short duration required injections every few days, which led to a decline in popularity with the rise of nandrolone decanoate. Despite this, Durabolin continued to be produced in generic form for several decades.
