Among the earliest orally active anabolic steroids, Stanozolol was launched in 1962 as Winstrol by Winthrop Laboratories. Its distinct structure, derived from DHT with a pyrazole group, allowed strong anabolic activity without estrogen conversion. It was prescribed for treating underweight conditions, bone loss, and growth issues. Though it was gradually withdrawn from the U.S. market, international production persists. Veterinary applications—especially for horses—maintain its presence today, where it's valued for lean mass support without fluid retention.
