Created by Ciba Pharmaceuticals in 1958 for its muscle-building properties, Methandienone (referred to as Dianabol) was a popular drug intended for building muscle mass and increasing athletic performance. The brainchild of Dr. John Ziegler, it was the first anabolic and less anablic (than testosterone) steroid made. Growing rapidly in popularity, by the 1960s it had come to be heavily regulated to prevent misuse.
