In the pharmaceutical field of the 1960s, Oxandrolone emerged as a milestone compound. Created by G.D. Searle & Co. and released as Anavar in 1962, it provided a rare combination of anabolic potency and low androgenic action. Approved for treating chronic weight loss, burn recovery, and stunted growth, it gained acceptance across medical systems globally. Despite this, its popularity in athletic misuse led to its withdrawal in 1989. In 1995, the compound reentered the U.S. market under the name Oxandrin, now authorized only for restricted clinical use through orphan drug status.
