hCG first attracted medical interest in the 1920s, after being identified as a pregnancy-specific hormone. By the 1930s, the Dutch company Organon developed the first commercial form, initially made from animal-derived tissues. This process was short-lived, as the pharmaceutical world shifted in the 1940s to using urine from pregnant women, a method that allowed safer and broader production. Though once used for a wide variety of ailments, hCG is now primarily applied in fertility therapy and hormonal recovery protocols.
