In 1995 FDA approved Anastrozole. Also well known as "Arimidex" a 3rd generation aromatase inhibitor produced by Zeneca Pharmaceuticals. It works by inhibiting the aromatase enzyme and it also plays a main role in estrogen production. Its introduction provided a major improvement in breast cancer treatment for postmenopausal women, offering an alternative to older therapies like tamoxifen. This selective estrogen-blocking mechanism helped establish Anastrozole as a crucial option in hormone therapy.
