Turinabol, or chlorodehydromethyltestosterone, was first described in 1962 and developed by Jenapharm in East Germany. Released as Oral Turinabol, it was designed as a mild, non-estrogenic anabolic for clinical use in men, women, and children. Though effective in preserving muscle and bone mass, it gained notoriety in the 1990s after revelations of its use in the GDR's state-sponsored doping program. Discontinued in 1994 after German reunification, it survives today via underground production.
