While many anabolic steroids faced limited therapeutic success, Stanozolol was widely used after its release in 1962. Known as Winstrol, it was developed by Winthrop Laboratories and prescribed for treating cachexia, stunted growth, and bone diseases. Its chemical design—a pyrazole-substituted DHT derivative—allowed oral activity and high anabolic efficiency. It was later used in animals to support recovery and conditioning. Though eventually removed from U.S. markets, it is still produced in countries like Spain, where its injectable form retains legal medical use.
