Human Chorionic Gonadotropin was first isolated in the early 20th century and quickly found use in clinical medicine. By 1931, Organon had launched the first commercial product, which they later renamed Pregnyl. Originally, the hormone was sourced from animal glands, but this gave way to a more efficient method in the 1940s—harvesting it from human pregnancy urine. Although hCG was once promoted for a wide range of conditions, today it serves a more focused role in treating infertility and testosterone suppression.
