Boldenone undecylenate originated from early testosterone modifications developed by Ciba in the postwar era. Patented in 1949 and briefly sold as Parenabol in the 1960s, it was intended for clinical use in treating catabolic states. Human production ended by the 1970s, but Squibb soon reintroduced the compound as Equipoise for veterinary application, particularly in horses. Its long-lasting undecylenate ester and moderate anabolic activity contributed to its enduring use in non-clinical performance enhancement.
