By the 1970s, testosterone propionate was incorporated into veterinary implants like Synovex®, containing 25 mg of testosterone propionate and 2.5 mg of estradiol benzoate. These pellets, designed for cattle, replaced the controversial diethylstilbestrol and rapidly gained market share. Although never intended for athletic use, some turned to Synovex® out of desperation due to its unregulated availability. Still, its high estrogenic content limited its practical use in bodybuilding.
