Marketed as Winstrol starting in 1962, Stanozolol was developed by Winthrop Laboratories and quickly gained approval for treating several wasting and underweight conditions. It stood apart for its high anabolic potency and oral bioavailability, derived from a pyrazole-modified DHT base. It was also used in veterinary applications, especially in horses. Over time, FDA-approved indications narrowed, and it was eventually pulled from the U.S. market. Nevertheless, legal versions are still produced worldwide, especially in Spain and Eastern European pharmaceutical industries.
