When G.D. Searle & Co. introduced Oxandrolone in 1962, it was part of a new wave of therapeutic steroids focused on minimizing androgenic risks. Branded as Anavar, it addressed muscle degradation and hormonal imbalance in clinical patients. Its structural design made it one of the better tolerated anabolic agents. The product eventually faced withdrawal in 1989 amid anti-steroid sentiment. In 1995, it was relaunched by BTG as Oxandrin, now targeted specifically at rare medical conditions, including HIV-related wasting and pediatric growth disorders, under orphan drug protections.
