Somatropin is a synthetic version of Human Growth Hormone (HGH) that plays a role, in promoting muscle and bone growth well as overall tissue development. Back in the 1950s human pituitary glands were the source of HGH extraction; by 1985 this method was stopped due to worries, about the safety risks associated with Creutzfeldt Jakob disease. Genentech introduced somatrem, the first synthetic version, and by 1987, somatropin emerged as a safer alternative, produced through recombinant DNA. While HGH promotes muscle growth and performance, its effects are generally less pronounced than those of steroids.
