YK-11 is a synthetic steroidal selective androgen receptor modulator (SARM), first described in 2011 by Kanno et al. Uniquely built on a steroid backbone, unlike most SARMs, YK-11 behaves as a partial androgen receptor agonist with gene-selective activity. In vitro studies have shown it stimulates follistatin expression, potentially suppressing myostatin and enhancing muscle growth. Despite its popularity in the fitness world, YK-11 has not undergone animal or human trials, leaving its efficacy and safety largely unknown.
