Stanozolol's appeal in clinical and veterinary medicine stemmed from its balance of anabolic strength and low androgenicity. First launched in 1962 as Winstrol, it was used to support recovery from trauma and to promote weight gain in chronically ill patients. Unlike many steroids, it didn’t lead to water retention or gynecomastia. Though FDA approval lapsed, international production remains active, especially in countries with established veterinary steroid use. Injectable versions are particularly common in equine and livestock care.
