Developed as a fertility drug in the early 20th century, HCG mimics luteinizing hormone (LH) to stimulate testosterone production in men. While its clinical use targets infertility, it became popular in bodybuilding to counteract testicular atrophy during steroid cycles. By maintaining testicular function, HCG helps restore endogenous testosterone production post-cycle. However, it also increases aromatase activity, converting testosterone to estrogen, necessitating caution to prevent estrogenic side effects such as gynecomastia .
