Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) was first found in 1920 and later recognized as a hormone related to pregnancy. The pharmaceutical company Organon started producing it in 1931 under the name of "Pregnon" which was later changed to "Pregnyl" by 1932; Initially sourced from animals but by the 1960s production methods advanced allowing for hormone extraction, from pregnant women urine; Currently used for fertility treatments and aiding athletes in their recovery after steroid cycles.
